Being There
Being there or being part of a community’s every day activities is a fundamental right of all residents.

It means:

• Physically being able to get to and into places
• Getting information that tells you what is happening
• Being able to do the activities that others are doing
• Being able to afford to participate

As well as a fundamental right, ‘being there’ contributes to the healthy development of the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual aspects of life. Social indicators reveal that some social environments assist people to become more socially capable than others, and that some groups face greater disadvantage than others (e.g. Indigenous people, people with a low income or with a disability, people from non-English speaking backgrounds). It is clear that some members of society are excluded from the benefits of a healthy community.

Helping more people to be part of the community is also good for business. Doing a few practical things may increase the numbers of people who access your business, venue or activity.
